Practical guide

Use this article as a starting point for evaluating international teaching opportunities. Always confirm final visa, contract, and employment details directly with the school or official authority.

Before signing a contract

Confirm the role, salary, start date, visa pathway, probation terms, teaching hours, and campus location. Ask for written details rather than relying on informal messages. If relocation support is promised, clarify exactly what is included and when it will be provided.

Documents to prepare

Most teachers should prepare a passport with sufficient validity, degree documents, teaching certificates, reference letters, police or background checks, and passport photos. Requirements differ by country and employer, so keep digital scans organized and confirm whether notarization, legalization, or translation is required.

Arrival and first month

Plan temporary housing, airport arrival, SIM card setup, banking, local transport, and emergency contacts. Keep enough cash or accessible funds for deposits and first-month expenses, especially if payroll starts after several weeks of work.

Action checklist

Questions to answer before you commit.

A strong offer should be clear enough that you can answer these questions without relying on assumptions.

Is the salary gross or net, and when is it paid?

Who pays visa, work permit, medical, and document costs?

What are the teaching hours, office hours, and weekend expectations?

Which campus or city will you actually work in?

What housing or arrival support is provided in writing?

What happens if either side ends the contract early?
